Facilitator of crowdsourced ideas

Job titles can be difficult to translate but when attending international conferences Danish job titles does not make sense to most participants – but does any title?

When you need to contact another organization job titles can help you find the right person to connect with fast and easy – But within your own organization – Do job titles do anything other that confirming a structure that is not the best for getting and developing ideas?

My own job title would translate to “Head of Library Development” – But that does not make sense. We need to get ideas and develop them and our libraries together in our organizations and beyond. I see myself as a facilitator of crowdsourced ideas about library development world-wide. We get better ideas and develop them better that way. Afterwards we need to fit them to our local communities to add value there.

So come work with me – I work for libraries – What is your idea?

By the way – You can generate your own library related job title here: http://www.michellemach.com/jobtitles/index.html

Day 4 and 5 of #libday6

This will be a good meetingIntro:
I´ll keep it short….. And then again. If I don´t I have an excuse for another relisten of the new amazing Iron & Wine album… Listen here

Transparent leadership:
A few thoughts about transparent leadership. I like the idea but it is often impossible. There are a lot of things to consider when dealing with people so I won´t be able to share every detail – to protect the innocent – of course. But hey – you don´t want them anyway.

Lot´s of meetings
After being sick Tuesday and Wednesday I had a lot to catch up on. We have a vacant position in the children’s library. I had some meetings with children’s librarians about this. Some meetings about staffing reference desk issues. We are weeding the collection very hard right now. This called for two short meetings too. I also had a meeting in the leadership group. Interesting times.
Lot´s of emails to answer too by the way and a bit of management by walking around…
– and general making to-do list smaller because I am on vacation next week – YAY!
I added a few pictures to flickr – most of them pre – work. Check them out.

When you cycle for libraries you also need to sleep
Do you know about the international library conference Cycling for libraries? They will visit one of our branch libraries and our main library. I am looking forward to receiving library people from all over the world and hosting a part of this great event. I have been in contact with local hostels to secure accommodation for the 100 people participating. Yesterday I received the final confirmation. So why is the idea about a conference like this so great? Read my greeting here. Follow the #cyc4lib hashtag on twitter.

#buyalib
A few emails to the other members of the #buyalib team. We are very excited about continuing the project by donating the collected money and thereby laying the first bricks for the library. We are working on a plan for getting info from the library to blog about so all you awesome contributors and supporters can follow the project along with us in the future. This is a spare time project so also thank you to patient wife and kids.
